Fundraising Principles

It is estimated that cleaning up the Baltic Sea will cost billions. Everyone is needed for this joint effort, the public sector as well as the private one. With PPP (PublicPrivatePartnership) everyone can utilize their own expertise and operations as effectively as possible in order to help the Baltic Sea. Joining our forces and acting together is the only way to leave a healthier Baltic Sea to the future generations.

The foundation needs funds to execute the various concrete projects. In order to facilitate the actions of the public sector and speed up the salvation operations we seek and accept donations from companies. We also accept donations from private individuals that wish to donate.

According to our fundraising strategy we actively seek monetary donations from companies. In addition to fundraising we are interested in companies that can offer knowhow, products, services or contacts that we can utilize in our various projects.

The funds are allocated to the preparation of projects and to the execution of these projects. According to the laws that concern foundations the board of trustees of the foundation is responsible of the funds and their use. Donations can be made to the Foundation for a Living Baltic Sea or to the funds that operate under the foundation. There are several funds which all have their own unique target areas to tackle. Donations can be made to our four individual projects and their specific funds or to funds under the names of our donator companies that have various targets or combinations of targets.

Donators can choose according to their preferences the funds that they wish to donate to and that have the most interesting targets. The allocation of the funds is made by the board of trustees.

Private individuals and donating

There has not been a public fundraising for now - meaning that we have not applied for a permission to gather funds via a public fundraiser. This has to be done when "money is collected from the public without remuneration", according to the Fundraising Law 31.3.2006/255, 3§. However many private individuals have spontaneously directed their presents on special occasion to our foundation.

Who can donate?

We feel that everyone has the right to take part in making the Baltic Sea healthier. Even though it is considered morally just that the ones responsible of the current state of the Baltic Sea should take responsibility of the costs that derive from cleaning the sea, it is sometimes difficult to find the direct cause or people liable. The majority of Baltic Seas problems are caused by people directly or indirectly. This is why we feel that everyone should be able to help somehow in this salvation process.

As a foundation we do not have business operations nor do we make sponsorship deals. We accept donations that are used to save the Baltic Sea. The amount donated can be determined in various ways. It does not count whether the donation is made as a one-time payment or for example as x €/product, % of the contribution margin or ‰ of profit.

It is the donors responsibility not to misuse the goodwill created by the donation. That is why we hope for some understanding from our donors since our work is based on our good reputation and we hope that this reputation will not be exploited. The foundation reserves a right to decline from donations that could harm our work on behalf of the Baltic Sea.

Transparency

We keep our donators up to date concerning the projects and the use of funds. With transparency throughout the organization we want to make sure that our supporters know what has been achieved with their donations.

BSAG as an independent actor

The Board of Trustees with the best available information decides on the use of the donations. Donators can affect the matter only by choosing a certain fund that is specialised in a certain problem. After making the donation, taking part in the decision making process at BSAG or affecting it in any way is not possible.

It is the foundations duty to allocate the donated funds best way possible in order to fulfil the purpose of the foundation as is stated in the charter of the foundation. The actions of the foundation are enforces by the National Board of Patents and Registration
